start an exercise program

One of the best ways to forget your urge to smoke is to begin working out on a regular basis.

Once you've hit the gym a few times (or started running, yoga, etc.) you'll realize how much of an impact smoking has on your lungs, heart, and general well-being. Afterwards, you just wont feel like smoking quite so much.

In addition, exercise can help you to overcome the weight gain associated with reducing your cigarette habit, and this will make it less likely you'll start smoking more in the future.

buy something in place of cigarettes

purchase something other than cigarettes.

Whenever you feel like buying cigarettes, buy something else instead.

Obviously, it'll help your checking account if whatever you buy in the place of cigarettes is cheaper than actual cigarettes, and if you can transfer your spending straight to stocks, bonds, or bank CD's--well that's ideal.

Still, music, movies, baseball cards, books, magazines, candy, and lottery tickets are all options; but you should choose something that interests you. Even if what you choose is a bit of a waste of money, it will almost certainly wind up being cheaper than cigarettes in the end.

After all, you may never win the lottery, but then lottery tickets don't cause Emphysema or Bronchitis.

lung cancer!

You knew it was coming.

At least we took mercy and just showed the x-ray.

Chances are that these images will become more graphic in the future. Drop us a line if you have examples you'd like us to use.

giving your money to the man

don't give your money to the man

Cigarette companies do some really cool things with your money:

  • Advertising to minors to ensure they have a steady stream of people in positions similar to yours.
  • Placing cigarette smoking characters in movies.
  • Lobbying politicians to keep everything else illegal.

Wait, you don't think that's cool?

Well then quit giving them your money. You can get started here.

they're banning smoking... basically everywhere

Maybe you remember a time you could smoke on an airplane. Now you can't even smoke in most airports.

If they haven't already done so, most states are making smoking in bars and restaurants illegal, and some states and cities have flat out banned smoking in public.

Add to this the willingness of most voters to continually raise taxes on cigarettes, and you can't help but feel like an outcast because of your smoking habit.

Whether or not you agree with these new laws, you'll probably have no choice but to obey them. Do you really want to feel like you have to stay home in order to avoid nicotine withdrawal? Maybe it's time to quit now, or at least reduce how much you smoke, so that you don't crave a cigarette every few hours.

quiteeasilydone.com can help you do that.

it makes you smell funny

While you've probably become used to the smell, it's pretty unlikely that your friends and co-workers have.

Immediately after you smoke, it's obvious to those near you, and the more you smoke in a day, the more you smell like cigarettes. That odor sticks around and builds up!

Whether you're looking for a promotion at work, or you're still looking for someone special, quitting will improve your chances of achieving your goals.

You don't want to be known as the person who smells like an ashtray, and your boss will hesitate to introduce you to clients if you usually do.

it's horrible for your teeth

Aside from the obvious and well-known health and cancer risks associated with smoking, it is really, really bad for your mouth.

Smoking is almost certain to increase your dental bills, not to mention the chances of your teeth falling out no matter how many dental bills you pay. Does that seem alright to you? Paying to smoke, just to pay for more medical bills in turn?

And if that doesn't phase you, it makes your breath stink, turns your teeth yellow, and worse...

it limits where you can work

Even if you can smoke on the job right now, chances are that you won't be able to in the future, or on your next job.

Are you really, completely happy with your job right now?

Quit while it's easy, and then you won't have deal with nicotine withdrawal while your learning a new trade, position, or environment.

You'll also look more healthy during your next interview, and that will improve your chances at landing that dream-job.

you like being dependent on something ALL of the time?

At least occasionally, most people have to go somewhere they're not allowed to smoke.

Aren't you tired of becoming anxious in these situations?

Whether it's your office party, your kid's band concert, or meeting with a group of people who don't smoke, it's time to face the fact that you're not enjoying these situations as much as you could.

So get a handle on your habit, then get out and meet more people, go and enjoy a movie, concert, or whatever it is you like to do--without the constant urge to get up and leave.

learn your triggers

As you're reducing how much you smoke, try to figure out what sort of events make you want to smoke.

These are different for everyone. For example, some people love to smoke while they're driving, while others never consider it when they're behind the wheel.

Knowing what you make makes you want to smoke will help you to avoid these situations in the future (or at least recognize where your urges originate) and will help dramatically when you decide to give up the habit.

it's just not cool anymore.

it's usually villains smoking in the movies these days

Face it. For one reason or another, smoking just isn't cool anymore.

It used to be the hero lighting up. Now, it's usually the villains.
